Our Music Ministry exists first of all to lead the music at our Masses, and in all ways to give Glory to God.
Participation in the music ministry at SSPP is open to anyone who feels called – prior music experience is not required, although it can be helpful.
If you’re interested in joining our Music Ministry simply download and complete this form, and return it to Julie Ford, Director of Music and Liturgy, either in person at any of our Masses or electronically at music@ssppjesuit.org.
Sunday 11:00 AM choir
Adults and youth in grades 8 and up are welcome to join these groups. Our first priority is to lead the hymns and other music in the Mass. Each group also has its own repertoire of special songs and anthems from a variety of sources and musical styles. Contact our Director of Music and Liturgy for information regarding rehearsal times.
Cantors and vocal soloists
Cantors have a special role of leading some of the sung portions of the liturgy, such as the responsorial psalm and the Alleluia verse. Cantors must pass an audition and attend rehearsals with our Director of Music and Liturgy. Cantors should possess basic music reading skills, and feel comfortable singing and leading a large group.
Instrumentalists
Instrumentalists can participate in the Mass in a variety of ways, such as playing a solo, playing in a small group, and playing a descant on a hymn. Our Director of Music and Liturgy has a library of resources and can assist you in finding and preparing music to play in our Masses. All instruments are welcome!
