Did you know that only 9% of plastic is recycled? It is cheaper to make new plastic than to recycle it. Plastic is building up in places around the world including the oceans. Plastic is being found in the stomachs of fish, other wildlife, and in our food sources. Micro and nano plastic particles are being found on every surface of the earth. This includes the arctic, Antarctica, Mt. Everest.

There is urgent need for change as individuals, government, industries, etc. So, what do we do? Advocate for change in packaging. Switch to refillable containers or purchase products with no plastic packaging like bar soap, shampoo and conditioner. All glass containers are recyclable. Use refillable containers. Visit sites like Hive which promises to be plastic free in a few years. Join advocacy groups like 4Ocean, the Sierra Club. There is always something more that we can do to decrease our use of plastic.
