It’s summer for sure, but the heat hasn’t slowed us down here at Ss Peter and Paul Jesuit Church!

We are as busy as we have ever been. This month we hosted not one, but two, service events! We partnered with Christ Church Detroit to run a week-long reading camp for neighborhood children, and we not only put our skills to use at D-Town farms but learned a lot about urban farming and the issues behind food insecurity.  We joined with the Jesuits of Detroit, other parishes, religious congregations, and church groups in celebrating the Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola.  We also joined with other parishes, religious congregations, and church groups in a community mass in support of separated families at Holy Trinity Church. Our young adults met for our monthly socials and a quick bike ride along the Dequindre Cut, because that’s what you do in the summer!

This coming month, in addition to our regular socials, the young adults will be having a bonfire on August 21, and we’ll have our final Town Hall meeting on August 11 to discuss the formulation of our new strategic plan. On August 22, we will be hosting guest speakers who will discuss their recent experiences down on the Southwest Border. Looking ahead to Labor Day weekend, we will host our 3rd Annual Jazz Mass on September 1st in celebration with the 40th Annual Jazz Fest.

Please check out our calendar and stop by our after-mass socials for a chance to meet others in our growing parish!
